About Us
The Speed River Track and Field Club was founded in 1997 by Dave Scott-Thomas as a club for University of Guelph student athletes and local runners.  Over the past ten years the club has grown in size and scope, to accommodate and attract athletes of all ages from across the country and has developed into the strongest middle distance and distance track and field club in Canada.

Since 2007 five Speed River athletes have represented Canada at a Major Championships including two at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and two more at the 2009 World Track and Field Championships.  The club currently has eleven athletes ranked in the top five nationally in their respective events and has set a goal of having eight athletes competing at the London 2012 Olympics.

The Speed River brand offers many layers including youth oriented programing, an Athletics Canada (track and field’s governing body in Canada) designated National Training Center, an elite training group, one of the countries most popular track and field websites and a series of five road and trail races.

Speed River currently has agreements with four major partners: New Balance, which is the official footwear and equipment supplier for the club and supports travel for Speed River athletes; Athletics Canada, which supports the club through their financial and infrastructure support of the Guelph National Training Centre; the University of Guelph, which supports the club through facility access and infrastructure; Powerbar, which is the official recovery product of the club, provides the club with financial as well as product support.
