Reid Coolsaet and Eric Gillis were training buddies with Guelph’s Speed River Track and Field Club. Wednesday night at the Canadian track and field championships, they were podium buddies.
In the final event of the first leg of the four-day national championship meet at Varsity Stadium, Coolsaet and Gillis were officially second and third respectively in the men’s 10,000 metres.
“It felt good for the training that Eric and I have been doing for the marathon,” Coolsaet said.
He had been the reigning champion of the event and stated that this is the first time since 2003 that he didn’t win his main event at the national championship meet.
