A trio of life time bests in the women's 1500 metres, highlighted the Speed River results at the British Milers Club Grand Prix Meet in Solihull, England. Amber McGown led the group with her runner-up finish in a lifetime best of 4 minutes 14.04 seconds, a performance that ranks her eighth in Canada's deepest event. Teammate Dana Buchanan shattered her lifetime best with a 4 minutes 17.11 clocking, ranking her tenth in the country. Buchanan took four and half seconds of her previous personal best in the break through effort. Rachel Cliff made it three for three with a personal best of 4:18.25, which was good enough for eighth in the strong field.
McGown was one of three Speed River athletes to land on the podium as Alex Genest and Rob Watson joined her with their results in the men's 3000 metre steeplechase. Genest finished second in 8 minutes 42.60 seconds, while Watson was third in 8:47.46 seconds. Genest's run moved him into third in the Canadian rankings, Watson continues to hold the lead with teammate Chris Winter second. Overall Speed River boasts the top four ranked steeplechasers in Canada.
In other action Saturday night, Kyle Boorsma finished sixth in the men's 1500 metres in a time of 3 minutes 43.85 seconds, while Courtney Laurie was seventh in the women's 5000 metres in a seasonal best performance of 16 minutes 50.17 seconds.
The New Balance Euro Tour will continue Tuesday with Cliff, Laurie and Rob Jackson in action in Stretford, England. The remainder of the group will return to action Thursday night in Karlstad, Sweden.
